The American Schools of Professional Psychology was founded in the early 1970s by a group of psychologists, educators, and other professionals who concluded that the preparation of psychology practitioners would be better served by schools that emphasized teaching and practical training. The Medical Institute of Minnesota was established to prepare skilled allied health care personnel for careers in hospitals and clinics. Program offerings responded to the emerging needs of the medical community. Throughout its history, the University of Sarasota provided a practice-oriented program of study that met the needs of working professionals while maintaining the highest academic standards.
These three schools merged to form Argosy University on September 1, 2001. Today, with the introduction of online education through our Chicago campus, Argosy University students can complete select undergraduate and graduate degree programs through campus learning.

L'Universite Rene Descartes - Paris V
The University Rene Descartes - Paris V - and its School of Medicine have a comprehensive program dedicated to improving and developing well-being in the Aging population. The Program is called Sciences et Techniques des Activites, du Movement et Viellisement and is within the College of Formation and Research of Sciences and Technology of the Activities Physical and Sporting (STAPS). The program focuses on physical disabilities, physical impediments, and ways of improving mobility of these individuals and also how to improve architectural elements of health care facilities to create more effective therapeutic environments.
The school has a rich history. In 1769, Louis XV entrusted construction of it to the architect Jacques Gondoin. Five years later, Louis XVI, placed the "last stone" of the amphitheatre. With its creation, the University chose to be placed under the patronage of the philosopher Rene Descartes (1596-1650). Descartes' vast and admirable experience in human knowledge matched admirably with that of the multi-disciplinary group of professionals at the University.
Three hundred years later, a decree of March 21, 1970 created even broader fields of study at the University. The University's original faculty for medicine, pharmacy, letters, and social sciences was kept and to this unit were added The Institute and University of Technology (IUT) , The College of Formation and Research of Sciences and Technology of the Activities Physical and Sporting (STAPS), the Faculty of Dental Surgery, the College of Training and Biomedical Research and the Faculty of Law.
The University currently includes 10 Units of formation and research (UFR) or faculties established in Paris and in Island-of-France. With more than 1,900 teachers and 1,000 administrative staff people, the University accommodates more than 32,000 students each year in Paris and at the Island-of-France.
This international collaboration permits Pacific Institute to and its interns to integrate some cutting-edge knowledge in the field of mobility and physical disabilities with the Institute's perspective on wellingbeing, caring for, and working with the elderly.
The Wright Institute
The Wright Institute was founded in 1968 by the distinguished psychologist Nevitt Sanford, a pioneer in the integration of social issues and clinical psychology. Sanford believed strongly in the capacity of adults to continue to learn and grow throughout their lives. His developmental approach and emphasis on the possibilities of lifelong learning form a key part of the foundation on which the Wright's doctoral program is built. Sanford was also influential in shaping American clinical psychology educational standards. In 1947, he was appointed by the American Psychological Association to the committee that established criteria for accrediting programs in clinical psychology. Under his leadership, the Wright Institute broadened the educational scope of clinical psychology training to include an emphasis on understanding the diverse society in which we live.
The Wright Institute is a Clinical Psychology Graduate School in Berkeley, California, offering a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) program in Clinical Psychology. The doctoral program is accredited by the American Psychological Association and the western Association of schools and Colleges. They teach the scientific knowledge base of clinical psychology, and enrich that learning by exploring the meanings of students' own experiences in relationships with clients. This unique learning method enables students to formulate and address clinical problems by examining the lenses through which they filter experience.
