What is necessary to change a person is to change his awareness of himself.
- Abraham Maslow
The Pacific Institute Academia is committed to developing professional skills in the field of mental health, geriatrics, and social relationships while raising personal awareness of humans' wider path in the world and to unfold the meaning of life of people around them.
Through the Pacific Institute‘s Academia and its comprehensive educational programming we educate the general public and train graduate students and licensed health professionals in the fields of mental health, social work, gerontology, nursing, and residential care administration. Our educational programs nurture a philosophy of care that views the emotional, mental and spiritual dimensions of aging as equally important to the biological one.
The seminars and continuing education programs of the Academia, along with some of the public programs, are accredited by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, the Health and Human Services Department, Division of Community Care Licensing. The California Professional Internship Council, Board of Psychology and Board of Behavioral Sciences accredits our internship sites. Pacific Institute Academia works in collaboration with many graduate schools to further the academic education of their participants. See participating schools

Some of our Educational Programs are the following:
- Public Programs
We present public lectures and events to educate the public on ways to raise its awareness and ways to care for their own, for elders, and the mentally vulnerable.
- Professional Development
The continuing education programs and seminars for health care professionals train them on new approaches to relate with others, with elders, and the mentally vulnerable or ill.
- Clinical Internship
Each academic year, we train and supervise clinical interns to provide mental health services using our unique approach. As a result, we are training new generations of mental health professionals equipped with the specialized knowledge of treating the specific needs of the populations we work with.
- Elders Academy Press: Through our very own publishing-house, we promote publications that teach and support meaningful aging, contemporary eldership, and best practices on mental health.
- Existential Humanistic Institute Another Department of the Pacific Institute Academia, the EHI is a training center in existential-humanistic theory and practice established to provide an alternative, a home, to those health and mental health professionals and scholars who long to investigate life's deepest dilemmas. EHI stresses an interdisciplinary vision to inquire into the meaning and nature of human life. EHI offers public programs on a variety of existential-humanistic themes.
